Are you eager? As eager as a child? There is a cute, fun-loving, six-year old girl in my neighborhood whom we will call Nina. Nina has recently taken an interest in the piano. She will knock on the back door of my house and ask if she can come in and play on the piano. See, it started a couple weeks ago when I was practicing a song I was going to play for church the following Sunday: she started asking questions. She didn’t understand how a bunch of ovals, dots, squiggles, and lines could tell you how to play a song. Day after day, she would come. One morning, the rain was pouring down and there she was: standing in the rain- asking if she could come in and learn something new about the piano. Now, the dictionary definition of eager is this, a person “wanting to do or have something very much.” Nina wanted very much to learn to play a song on the piano- Nina is eager. We are working on naming notes, sight reading, rhythm, and simple songs. “Twinkle, twinkle” was the first song she asked to learn and with practice, patience, and encouragement from those around her, she met her goal. She can now play “Twinkle, Twinkle” as well as “Jesus Loves Me” and “God is so Good.” It takes work. More than she thought it would. But when you are eager to do or learn something, is it not so much simpler to stick with it? She is proud of her hard work and determination, and rightly so- and so am I. What a joy it is when someone you love is eager to do something good! Is that not what God wants of us? He wants us to be eager! He wants us to want His way very much. The Bible speaks of people being eager, just two examples from one of my favorite books: “As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.” For many, a song will come to mind at the words of Psalm 42:1, but what is the verse saying? We should be like the deer that eagerly drink the water out of a creek and be drinking up the teaching of the Bible. Psalm 63:1 poetically describes David’s eagerness for His Lord. “O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.” Once, I heard someone say, “It’s good to be willing to do what God wants of you, but it is so much better to be eager!” We should all be willing to listen and obey the plans God has for us. Of course!! But we should also be eager to serve our God Who created us and loves us with an everlasting love. Should we not be eager to go and tell others about Our Savior? In Mark 16:15, Jesus commanded his disciples to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” We should be eager and excited to spread the word Now, let me ask you again. Are you eager? Eager to follow God’s will for your life? I know I’m eager to find out His plan for me! Recently, He has given me so much to think about and it causes me to trust Him more and makes me even more eager to follow Him. What has God placed in your life that you need to practice as Nina did for to play her first song? Keep Smiling Anyway :) {Never Miss a Post! Click here to subscribe and get my posts in your inbox!}
